(MSSI) today announced the release of Version 3.0 of its FCC-certified, PAL650(TM) ultra wideband (UWB) Precision Asset Location and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. Using patented short pulse UWB techniques, PAL650 provides sub-foot localization and remote tag identification even in the presence of severe multipath as encountered in hospitals and industrial facilities. Version 3.0 includes an improved graphical users interface for systems programming and extended field lengths to accommodate larger tag ID spaces. With MSSI's patented UWB technology, PAL650 battery-powered tags have life expectancies in excess of five years, even at rapid blink rates of once per second. This is several orders of magnitude better than competing active RFID technologies such as those based on 802.11x.
