Accu-Sort announces creation of RFID Design Center
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (December 15, 2004) -- Accu-Sort Systems (ASI) today announced the creation of an RFID Design Center at its manufacturing facility in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. The center, which will focus resources on innovative product development, is part of Accu-Sort's commitment to the convergence of RFID and bar code systems.
"The RFID Design Center is a center of excellence within Accu-Sort," said Bob Joyce, president of Accu-Sort Systems Inc. "What the industry will see is a leader in operational excellence. What our customers will see is a new line of products that are simpler and easier to install and use."
In creating a separate business unit dedicated to RFID and auto ID, Accu-Sort is gathering experts from across the company to focus on research and development. The team is also deploying specialized equipment to help customers meet compliance mandates, including a high-speed loop for advanced research. The high-speed conveyor, outfitted with the latest Accu-Sort cameras, lasers and antennae, will enable Accu-Sort to replicate for customers real-world conditions in the center.
The RFID Design Center will enable us to produce new products faster," said Steve Kowalke, RFID business unit manager. "All of our new products are focused on meeting customer needs, and all of them are focused on auto ID. We live and breathe this stuff." The center will be staffed with employees from R&D, Application Engineering
and Marketing. It will leverage the expertise of researchers from Camera and Laser divisions, among others. It will also build a critical mass of expertise
within R&D.
"The center will give us the focus and energy of a startup, while leveraging the field force and our manufacturing expertise," Joyce said, noting that parent company Danaher Corporation has increased its RFID funding at Accu-Sort by 500 percent in 2004. "We expect it will accelerate our growth through faster new product development."
