AHRIST is evaluating the use of RFID tags by vendors, DLA distribution centers, and the entities that receive the materials. Shipment information is encoded on RFID tags that accompany the goods. The tags are read at portals in the Department of Defense supply chain, and the information encoded on the tags is conveyed via the AHRIST automated information system (AIS) to the AISs of the vendors and DOD.
