RFID systems are becoming available for a number of different transportation-related purposes, including toll collection. RFID toll collection systems are currently in operation on the Crescent City Connection Bridge and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in New Orleans, the Dallas North Tollway, the Oklahoma Turnpike, and on several toll roads in France and Italy. The Port Authority and TBTA have been field testing this technology since 1988.
