RFID Healthcare Installation in Israel

Wavetrend Technologies implements an active RFID project for the new Ashdod Medical Center in Israel, that creates the largest active RFID installation in the Middle East. ...

Hospital RFID installation will be largest in Israel

... "In the interest of achieving the best possible monitoring of equipment, personnel and high-risk patients, Ashdod Medical Center required full RFID coverage for all six operational floors of its facility. To meet this objective, Ardan will install a vast infrastructure of active RFID supplied by Wavetrend. Readers will be strategically positioned throughout the hospital, and an extensive array of tags designed to track multiple assets will be deployed. The real-time tracking capabilities that the system offers will allow the hospital to locate critical equipment and personnel in the event of an emergency, and also monitor the whereabouts of high-risk patients in real time so that medical staff can react to an alert immediately. RFID eSeals Track Cargo Support ISO-18185

Savi Technology will license its intellectual property used in electronic cargo seals (e-Seals) to support global standard, ISO 18185. Active RFID technology is used for security and tracking of cargo that improves visibility and efficiency in the world trade supply chain. ...

Active RFID e-seal

... "E-Seals combine mechanical locks with wireless RFID communication systems to automatically notify users about security breaches and container locations. Program participants gain access to Savi's patent-protected, intellectual property on how these active, battery-powered RFID tags communicate with readers. Savi Technology launched the program May 1 with its QuickStart program, and continues licensing through its Basic program. The U.S. SAFE Port Act of 2006 calls for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS) to define the voluntary use of container security devices in accordance with international standards. USDHS considers ISO 18185 (International Standardization Organization), which enables interoperability of products from multiple vendors, as an applicable container security standard. " ...

RFID Location Tracking in Elder Care

AeroScout and Surecom collaborate to implement nmedical alerting system for PresCare, an Australian elder-care provider. The solution uses RFID technology to provide track the status of elderly residents at one of its senior residential sites in Queensland, Australia. ...

Aeroscount implements RFID into the elder care process

... "Wi-Fi-based Active RFID tags along with its enterprise location tracking software, MobileView. These products communicate with the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure at the facility and are linked with each staff member's mobile handheld device as well as several flat screen monitors throughout the complex. AeroScout's unique Exciter products add enhanced high-accuracy detection at choke points such as doorways and exits. The AeroScout and Surecom solution is based on a set of configurable location-based rules, which trigger alerts when transgressed. These rules could include an at-risk resident wandering within a dangerous location, lack of movement for a configurable amount of time, a self-alerting button, or many others. Whenever an alert is triggered, an on-call nurse is immediately notified through their handheld device. " ...

Active RFID Tags Compatible With Cisco CCX Format

AeroScout WiFi tags are now compatible with Cisco's CCX tag format. Location functionality can be added to Wi-Fi networks easily. ...

... "The Cisco CCX tag format builds upon the Wi-Fi beaconing tag method that AeroScout and Cisco jointly pioneered. It is a new standard for communication from Wi-Fi-based Active RFID tags, which delivers location information and other valuable data to the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance. The beaconing method eliminates the need to associate with the Access Point and enables AeroScout's asset tracking solutions to easily scale to tens of thousands of tags without negatively impacting the Wi-Fi network. For example, one recent AeroScout installation uses this method to enable over 15,000 AeroScout tags to operate on a Cisco Unified Wireless Network. Other non-CCX tags that require an association method of continuous back-and-forth communication are severely limited in scalability and drain network resources." ...

DHL RFID Pharma Temperature Controlled Logistics Innovation Recognized

DHL is recognized for innovative application of RFID technology in the pharma supply chain. ...

... "Today's pharmaceutical products generally consist of temperature-sensitive ingredients that can lose their effectiveness when they are placed in an environment that is too cold or too hot. The DHL Innovation Initiative developed an inventive solution to monitor temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products during transport. RFID sensor tags made by the development partner Infratab monitor the temperature of pharmaceutical shipments. The stored measurement data can be read by a RFID reader without physical contact using radio waves. In the process, the shipment does not have to be opened. The link to the database is handled by solutions created by IBM, one of the global innovation partners of the DHL Innovation Initiative. Thanks to the new service, pharmaceutical companies can react to temperatures that exceed or fall below limits even while the shipment is still being transported.

The battery-powered memory chip is equipped with an integrated alarm function that records each time that the temperature rises above or falls below predetermined limits. In the future, unusable medications can be removed more quickly from the supply chain. Based on the temperatures to which the shipment was subjected, the sensor chip also determines the individual expiration date for medications. As a result, physicians and pharmacists can distribute the medication whose expiration date comes first, preventing medications from going bad after they have left the transport chain. " ...

Active RFID Technology Secures Port of Oakland

WhereNet Corp. will assist the Port of Oakland in meeting security requirements of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by implementing a truck RFID tagging system at one of its most active marine terminals. Drayage trucks at the Oakland International Container Terminal (OICT) will be equipped with WhereNet active RFID tags. ...

WhereNet supports Port of Oakland security improvements with RFID technology

... "The Port of Oakland has purchased 1,700 WhereTag active RFID transmitters and is contracting with WhereNet and eModal to distribute the tags to drayage companies that serve the OICT, which is operated by Stevedoring Services of America Terminals (SSAT). WhereNet has completed installation of RFID readers at OICT and drivers using that terminal are already voluntarily installing the tags on their truck cabs. When a driver arrives at the terminal and approaches security, a transmission from the WhereTag is picked up by the WhereNet Real-Time Locating System (RTLS) infrastructure of antennas installed at each marine terminal and automatically cross-references with the information available through the eModal trucking database, ensuring that only authorized vehicles are granted entry. The Port of Oakland's security initiative should be bolstered by the recent DHS decision, announced on January 9, 2007, to award increased grant funding to help secure California ports this year.
