RFID Waste Management Process Implements Access Control and Tracking
Alien Technology and Creativesystems collaborate to deliver a process-integrated RFID solution for LIPOR, the municipal Waste Management organization for Greater Oporto, Portugal. The RFID technology support a more streamlined and automated process, which was previously manual. ...
... "LIPOR has installed the Alien-Creativesystems RFID tracking solution to verify if a certain truck is allowed to unload its garbage at the waste management disposal center. Alien’s ALR-8800 passive UHF reader/writer, controls the gate barrier’s opening and closing by first reading the tagged vehicle to determine if the vehicle is allowed entry. Once the barrier opens, the truck proceeds to a designated weigh bridge where the weight of the vehicle is recorded and is assigned to a tag on the windshield. This weight is then communicated to the driver via a display, and the vehicle then travels to a specific unload point inside the facility, where the waste is unloaded. The RFID solution also ascertains that the driver went to the correct unload point since there are readers mounted throughout the facility. When the truck exits LIPOR’s facility, the tag is once again read to determine if the truck is allowed to exit. Periodic, real-time reports are issued to the municipalities via email to for billing purposes. " ...

HP RFID Data Center Management
HP launches RFID-enabled data center management service. The RFID technology will support visibility to assets and reduce loss, increase security, and improve management controls. ...
... "The HP Factory Express RFID Service tracks critical data center assets, such as HP factory-built servers, storage devices and rack enclosures, so customers can continuously monitor the equipment as soon as it is received at their facilities. When deployed as part of a full RFID solution from HP and its partners, the service automates and tracks device movement, providing an accurate inventory of all assets throughout their lifecycle. RFID is a data-collection technology that uses radio waves to remotely store and retrieve data to identify objects. It provides companies with up-to-the-minute supply chain visibility, including inventory, logistics and freshness dates. Data center asset management is becoming crucial to customers, particularly those with thousands of servers in multiple data centers across several geographies. Many data centers operate with manual inventory lists and have low inventory accuracy. With moves, adds and changes, keeping track of technology devices can be complex. HP's RFID tagging process allows technology devices to be scanned from the factory to the customer without requiring workers to manually inventory each asset. Customers can then quickly locate and maintain devices with minimal employee intervention, saving time and reducing loss or theft of valuable technology assets. " ...

RFID Smart Label Insertion Machine
Muehlbauer Technology Group introduces RFID Smart Label Insertion Line, IL 15000, which inserts wet RFID inlays into existing standard labels. ...

... "Many label manufacturers currently produce standard self-adhesive labels used for a variety of applications. An insertion process is required to e quip labels with an RFID inlay. Since this is a high volume production process, the market requires an efficient solution for the automation of this process. Muehlbauer's IL 15000 is a fully automatic RFID inlay insertion machine for printed or finished self adhesive labels. The finished labels are fed into the machine from a reel and transferred to the process module. Each single label is then lifted off the liner and a RFID inlay is inserted underneath the sticky side of the label. After this process step, the label will be put back on the liner. An optional functional test can be integrated into the IL 15000, which will ensure that your labels are working according to your specifications. " ...

RFID Library System Increases Customer Touch and Automates Routine Check-In and Out
Integrated Technology Group will install RFID technology at Fontana library to improve the customer experience. ...
... "The Fontana library will use Apex XpressCheck patron self-service kiosks and Vista Book Drop to speed up check-outs and returns. With the new system, patrons will be able to check out items in a stack rather than one at a time as with bar code-based systems. Waiting times are expected to decrease drastically with the new system. Books returned through the book drop will be automatically checked in at the time of drop off. Patrons will no longer have to ask staff members to check in their returned items before they are able to check out new materials. As a result, staff members will have more time to assist library patrons in locating materials and helping them use library resources. " ...
