Metro RFID Traceability Manages Product Replenishment

METRO Group will implement IBM software to capture and manage inventory and expiration dates for meat sold in its retail Future Store. ...

... "The IBM software automates the process of identifying items nearing their expiration dates and alerts staff when the store is low on a particular meat item. In the past, these tasks have been performed manually by employees, who visually scanned shelves for items about to expire, and surveyed the freezer frequently to determine which meats needed to be restocked. Using IBM's RFID technology, METRO Group can improve customer satisfaction and boost sales by ensuring that its freezer is stocked with the meats shoppers are looking for. " ...

Medical Center RFID Achieves Benefits and Expands Use

Carolinas Heart and Vascular Institute expands its use of RFID tracking throughout its medical system, as the RFID-enabled process has shown improvements in utilization and accuracy of critical high-value equipment, which translates into financial benefits. ...

Carolina Heart Institute uses RFID to achieve benefits

... "The cabinet-based system was initially deployed in a cardiac catheterization laboratory suite to store, track, and manage the utilization of high cost items such as Drug-Eluting stents and PTCA balloon catheters. The organization has now expanded its use of the system by deploying twenty-six units to manage those items for additional cardiac catheterization laboratories while also managing pacemakers and ICDs for the electrophysiology laboratories. With these additional units, CHVI will complete a broader deployment of the technology to support efforts to increase charge capture accuracy, eliminate product expiration, and optimize on-hand inventory levels to support organizational improvement initiatives. IBM RFID ePedigree Drug Solution Track Supply Chain Movements

IBM has developed a solution that enables pharmaceutical companies to create an electronic certificate of authenticity, an electronic pedigree or ePedigree, for drugs that move through the supply chain, from manufacturers to distributors, pharmacies and hospitals. ...

... "The ePedigree feature is a key capability of the new version of IBM's WebSphere RFID Information Center (RFIDIC), a high performance data repository that allows clients to efficiently manage and securely share information with trading partners to authenticate pharmaceuticals. Unlike competing solutions, the IBM offering was designed to manage and aggregate product serial numbers to enable processes in manufacturing plants, distribution centers, pharmacies, and hospitals.

IBM's new ePedigree feature allows clients to comply with new and emerging regulations such as those that will take effect in California in 2009 using either RFID, 2D barcodes, or a combination of barcodes and RFID. The offering provides a flexible track and trace framework for generating ePedigrees through standards-based EPC Information Services. By establishing ePedigree via EPCIS events and queries, clients will also be able to easily access key data elements to solve other business needs such as chargeback resolution and expiration management.
