DTRONIC has created a new UHF RFID Desktop Reader with USB connection in its EVO family of products, that will enable RFID tag reading and writing. ...
... "The UHF USB Desktop Reader of the modern EVO series offers the same features like iDTRONIC’s EVO USB Stick UHF. The Desktop Reader supports ISO18000-6 B/C tags incl. Class1 Gen2. Thanks to its wide frequency band from 840—960MHz, the iDTRONIC USB Desktop Reader EVO – UHF Multitag can be used in for all international standards (usable in Europe, US and Japan). The well-designed EVO desktop Reader allows an easy integration into most common RFID applications. A multi-Color LED allows intuitive interaction of the Application with the reader/writer. Its USB 2.0 interface offers high speed data transfer. " ...

Alien Technology collaborates with Bechtel Jacobs Company and GlobeRanger to deliver a viable RFID solution for tracking of contaminated waste removed from clean-up sites. The solution has been applied to the Bechtel Jacobs' environmental remediation process, where tracking and detailed record keeping is critical. ...

... "Within three months of initial discussions, a deployable RFID solution was installed in the field. Vehicles were equipped with tags containing Alien’s feature-rich Higgs-3 IC, and rugged deployable passive RFID towers were developed using Alien’s enterprise-class ALR-9900 readers. Utilizing software developed by GlobeRanger, the system was designed to automatically identify vehicles at designated checkpoints, thus giving Bechtel Jacobs visibility into real-time material tracking as well as the ability to remotely manage the RFID systems, even in locations where infrastructures may be non-existent.
The GlobeRanger software collected data from a variety of devices, including handhelds, fixed RFID readers, and weigh scales. Data from these inputs was then programmed in the extended memory section of the Alien Higgs-3 tags using encryption algorithms to enhance security. The system was designed to flag and provide alerts and notifications if processes or time schedule variances deviated from pre-defined expectations. " ...

Wavetrend Technologies implements an active RFID project for the new Ashdod Medical Center in Israel, that creates the largest active RFID installation in the Middle East. ...

... "In the interest of achieving the best possible monitoring of equipment, personnel and high-risk patients, Ashdod Medical Center required full RFID coverage for all six operational floors of its facility. To meet this objective, Ardan will install a vast infrastructure of active RFID supplied by Wavetrend. Readers will be strategically positioned throughout the hospital, and an extensive array of tags designed to track multiple assets will be deployed. The real-time tracking capabilities that the system offers will allow the hospital to locate critical equipment and personnel in the event of an emergency, and also monitor the whereabouts of high-risk patients in real time so that medical staff can react to an alert immediately. Freedom Shopping has launched a solution that plugs into existing cash registers and point-of-sale terminals to enable RFID checkout, inventory tracking and security. ...
... "The core of the solution is a software wedge (Freedom-ID) that operates on the point-of-sale (POS) terminal. It communicates with a counter-top RFID reader pad (EasyRead Pad) and/or other readers in the checkout lane. Inventory is monitored with mobile RFID readers and security gates also are RFID-enabled. Data is passed to existing cash registers and POS infrastructure at all points in a SKU format so it can be instantly integrated. Consumer privacy is protected using a variety of technical safeguards. " ...

Alien Technology and Hardcard Systems have completed field testing of RFID technology for motorsports timing and scoring. Hardcard Systems plans to use RFID in motorsports applications to make the timing and scoring solutions more cost effective. The race vehicles are tagged and time-stamped using antennas and RFID readers. ...

... "In tests conducted at Buttonwillow Raceway in California in December 2007, Hardcard and Alien used standard Gen 2 UHF RFID tags, antennas, readers and software to accurately track and time eight motorcycles at speeds exceeding 140mph. Competition-prepared motorcycles were successfully time-stamp recorded passing several read points around the racetrack, simulating realistic race situations where multiple racers pass reader checkpoints. Alien ALR-9900 readers and standard antennas were stationed at the checkpoints, providing accurate reads up to 10 meters away (over 30 feet) at race-like speeds. The professional racers' machines were equipped with a total of two of Alien's M-Tags each. " ...
