RFID Steel Slab Identification

ThyssenKrupp Steel uses RFID Anywhere for slab identification. Accenture felt that RFID Anywhere is appropriate for ThyssenKrupp Steel's application, which requires a range of mobile and fixed RFID devices and printers to be deployed globally and integrated into corporate systems. ...

RFID used for steel handling at the Port of Duisburg

... "The software infrastructure will be used in ThyssenKrupp Steel's new steel mill in the Bay of Sepetiba, Brazil, as well as at the European sea harbor and local harbor in Duisburg, Germany, to automatically identify steel slabs and to speed up the unloading process. Working with consultants from Accenture, ThyssenKrupp Steel recently completed successful pilot trials with 1,000 slabs sent from Brazil and marked with RFID tags. Custom-made software applications based on RFID Anywhere were used to tag the slabs in Brazil and identify them at various points throughout their journey. At the harbor in Duisburg, slabs hanging on a crane were identified in a fully automated fashion while being unloaded. The Brazilian steel mill is currently under construction and is scheduled to start production of five million metric tons of steel per year in 2009. Overall, a total of 250,000 slabs will be transported every year, 100,000 of which will be processed at ThyssenKrupp Steel's German plants -- a highly complex logistics process for which ThyssenKrupp Steel will rely on Sybase iAnywhere RFID technology. RFID Technology Goes Postal in Spain

Spanish Postal Service, Correos, deploys the RFID Anywhere platform in Europe. its implementation of a radio frequency control system, called Q-RFID, is in a number of Automated Processing Centers and bulk Admission Centers. The RFID technology deployment enables the company to drive quality control and traceability of deliveries. ...

RFID technology power Spain post office

... "Correos' successful implementation of one of the largest RFID projects in Europe highlights the potential of RFID solutions. The state-controlled company required its RFID solution to be integrated into the Correos computer systems, resulting in the purchase of 13,000 passive electronic labels and installation of more than 2,300 permanent antennas and over 331 readers for the 16 APCs and the additional Admission Centers. The RFID Anywhere-powered solution gives Correos the ability to monitor the status and transit time of a letter at each stage of the delivery process, allowing the company to oversee the entire process and adopt corrective measures when a fault is detected in the system. Correos is one of the earliest to use RFID technology to comply with the standards set by the European Union (ETSI EN 302 208-1 and EPC GEN 2) and to be approved at the state level by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade. RFID Context Aware Location Services

Sybase enhances its RFID Anywhere solution to support advanced services that enable context-aware locating capabilities. Location information is given a business context in applications that support asset management, access control, resource management in industries, such as logistics, healthcare, and other supply chain environments. Location information will integrate sensor technology data associated with assets. Assets will be identified and associated with fixed locations and temporal information to provide location and timing insights. Conditions can be monitored and alerts will be provided based on events. ...

... "RFID Anywhere 3.0 breaks new ground with the delivery of a context-aware Location Information System. Using RFID Anywhere, businesses can not only track assets from a range of data collection points [such as passive RFID, active RFID, real-time location systems (RTLS), barcode, global positioning systems (GPS) and environmental sensors], but can dramatically enhance the value of this data by associating environmental inputs (e.g., temperature) along with the location data. In addition, the RFID Anywhere 3.0 Location Information System exposes its complete feature set via a rich service oriented architecture (SOA) web services layer allowing organizations to easily transform static business information into business-aware intelligence. " ...

Via Sybase: Sybase iAnywhere Pioneers Context-Aware Location Information System with RFID Anywhere 3.0 ...

RFID Anywhere simplifies the development, deployment, configuration and management tasks for highly distributed, multi-site, intelligent sensor networks, and abstracts the interaction with the physical network of devices. With support for over forty devices, this powerful infrastructure enables the creation of intelligent sensor networks out-of-the-box. By using RFID Anywhere, sensors are able to work together as an intelligent network by combining, organizing and coordinating these technologies through a common management structure, advanced feature set and event-driven development framework.
