German revolt against RFID    Metro Group has abandoned a trial of RFID radio tags after protests by digital rights activists. The German retail giant has tested RFID tags at its Extra Store in Rheinberg near Duisburg for nearly a year. Exel tests radio identification technology     Logistics giant Exel is to test Radio Frequency Identification technology in monitoring extended supply chains from China to Europe. Simply described as a 8220 unique bar code that talks 8221 RFID uses radio waves to exchange information between a tag and a receiver-reader. UK: House Of Fraser To Participate In RFID Trial    The year-long trial to begin in June will help the retailer to determine the potential cost benefits of using RFID to automate distribution centre dispatching inventory counting and store receiving. Target Issues RFID Mandate to Suppliers    All vendors will be expected to comply by the spring of 2007 according to a company spokeswoman. Industry analysts said they expect more retailers to issue RFID mandates in the coming months. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. started the trend last year asking its top 100 suppliers to begin tagging pallets and cases by the start of 2005 so it can better track goods through its supply chain QuickLink .
