NEC TOKIN will develop and market its own brand of RFID reader products based on the Speedway platform for the Japanese market. The agreement also includes a partnership with NEC Corporation, NEC TOKIN's parent company. NEC will offer the Powered by Impinj readers, with NEC's RFID Manager middleware, as part of its systems integration business. The middleware manages the electronic product code (EPC) information streaming from the readers and sends the data on to warehouse and enterprise management systems. The companies' first joint deployment will be an installation at NEC's Personal Products Co., Ltd, the PC manufacturer, in Yonezawa. Impinj's Speedway reader received the EPCglobal Gen 2 standard certification mark and has been successfully installed in large North American retail and distribution environments that require RFID technology to improve supply chain efficiency.
